Screamin’ Jay Hawkins

Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, the original composer and lyricist of the song “I Put A Spell On You”. Of course most of us know this song from Hocus Pocus, or maybe even the Nina Simone cover, but he is the original creator of the song! He is also referred to as the first shock rock musician ever. He would enter the stage by emerging from a coffin, used a skull-shaped microphone (pictured here), and would even set off smoke bombs. Pretty cool stuff. Happy Spooky Season
