I genuinely recommend doing whatever art you wanna do ESPECIALLY when it comes to things like the dsmp but if you don't wanna associate with the fandom that is very much understandable!! Although it can be really fun there's some icky personalities.. best to just block and ignore

•The dsmp community is icky (trust me I'm in it) but there are a good chunk if you avoid the problematic stuff!! There are a bunch of cool artists and lots of cool people!! Honestly just stay off of twitter for now, and you'll be ok

•I’m not into the dsmp but i think it’s largely a nice community, there are bad eggs in every community and you shouldn’t let that stop you from drawing fanart for what you’re interested in!

•There are good beans in it. One of my best friends is actually a pretty popular animator in the fandom, lol

•We're not all that bad, honestly it's only a little of us, the bad side gets all the attention :/

•I don’t think you should avoid doing something you want to because of a group of awful people. If you get bad people messaging you, you always have the option to block them :) Don’t let shitty people ruin your fun :D

I can tell you two things: i am incredibly annoyed with the dream smp fanbase (even though i know the bare minimum about anything) and i will cheer all your fanarts on if you make any
