What are your thoughts and experiences with Krita? I may have a teeny tiny bit of interest in getting it after the Adobe stuff that's gone viral recently. Consider it an interest in finding a backup program in case things go terribly wrong. (The current TOS affects files that are on Adobe's cloud storage. I save all of my PSD files locally instead of on Adobe's cloud, so while this issue doesn't affect me personally, it's all BS regardless.)Jun 9, 2024

It's really good, the flow is smooth, there are many very different tools and like five tools just for shading. It's not beginner friedly and could be a little confusing at first but it's a really good app

I tried it once and could see how it can be good! The fact that it was free and open-source was what attracted me first.
I unfortunately didn’t have the best experience because it l a g g e d a TON for me. My brushstrokes appear with a 0.5 second delay and it wasn’t fun despite managing to complete a short test piece.
I think it was probably because I was using it on a fairly old MacBook though, but still not flattering for a first impression.

•It's been my program of choice since I started digital art!! It was confusing at first, especially since I had never drawn digitally before, but I ignored most of the features at first and discovered them one at a time whenever I needed them. I could also always rely on googling problems I had to find an answer. The text tool sucks, but everything else is pretty great. You can customize the layout however you want (just be sure to save it, otherwise if you ever switch to a different one and want to go back you'll have to rearrange everything again)

•i tried using it back when i was just illustrating and found it kind of difficult to use, it was a lot to learn and it kinda seemed like it was forcing me to paint when i just wanted to draw lol. that was like 6 years ago, ive heard a lot of good things about it and if i didn't love CSP i would probably go back and try it again

I just recently (like a few months ago) started using krita and it was a bit difficult to get used to since i hadn't drawn in a computer unless it was with a mouse on ms paint or sth but it is quite good!! Just sometimes if you do too many things like if animation gets long or if you have too many layers it can lag and once it crashed too but idk if its just my laptop or yeah, other then that its nice!!

It’s free, it has everything I need, it’s absolutely fantastic for painting and you can move everything around to fit your needs.
Just the text tool is still pretty janky, but they are always improving stuff so that should be on their list somewhere.
But yeah, anything from screen recording to animation~
There are tons of tutorials, a handbook on their website where you can look stuff up and there are also free additional brushes on their website and some on David revoy s site (the dude who works on the official brushes) if you want safe sources to get stuff without worrying.

I LOVE KRITA, ITS MY RIDE TO THE DEATH...ahem, I like how customizable it is, I use it on a Samsung tablet and it works wonders, tho if your device is a little less powerful compared to a actual PC then I would advice lowering the amount of space/mb/GB so it crashes less, you can also lower other things to insure it runs smoothly. Since I don't have any keyboard functions, I can't explore all the cheats and things, I'm always learning form the app, you honestly need to just explore it for a bit but it is my favorite thing in the world hehe

•I have it and like it, but it was a learning curve going from Corel painter to Krita. So I’m still figuring it out! but, I will always support free software! I’m a big fan of the 3D program Blender for the same reason.

In all honesty I haven't been having any problems using Krita, I've been using it for awhile now....But sometimes it dose crashes form time to time, but other than that, I'm still learning how to use it myself. I'm still scratching the surface of Krita. Ever since I've gotten it I've only learn the basics thing you can do in krita......Overall, I enjoy using it.

•I basically made the swap from Photoshop, with SAI lineart to Just Krita for desktop art some time in 2019 and basically never looked back.
Kritas brush engine just Felt like photoshops in a way that other programs don't. But it has many of the features Photoshop really never bothered to implement (or implement well) from more drawing focused programs (I'm still mad about how Photoshop handled canvas view rotation and how BAD it was, when SAI had that shit DOWN from day 1).
It... Does do stuff in very strange ways though. It's worth looking through the documentation to learn how it all works. They do have documents just for "moving from X program?", which are a great help.
Admittedly, I mostly make art in procreate these days, due to the convenience of the iPad. But krita is my fav desktop program. Theyve also been openly anti-AI, there's no ads and no features behind paywalls too.
