@QuirkneyArt's post on Artfol
ohmygod So Ive been doing another “draw with and compare different art apps on ipad” experiment bc I cancelled my Clip Studio subscription so I have wanted to revisit all my other faves that I own/are free (no subscriptions - edit: ipads CSP app is subscription only unlike desktop, for context why I didn’t ever buy it) AND I was only going to compare Ibispaint, Affinity Photo, Artstudio pro, Medibang Pro, and Procreate bc they all have similar-ish level of capabilities—
—BUT THEN I found out the quite good app called Sketchbook (not an actual sketchbook but the app
) FINALLY added clipping masks to their ios app (Desktop already had it but ios was missing it and I did not think they would ever add it tbh) and NOW with just that one very basic feature put in it makes it WAY more comparable to the other offerings (Clipping masks and layer blend modes are a must for my preferred digital art process) and also has such a great interface and brushes so Im so glad they added clipping masks

I think I’ll add it into the ring too

I got into Krita once I left the Adobe ecosystem and never looked back. I love that there are so many alternatives out there!

This got me curious because I remember autodesk sketchbook but when I went to redownload it says it’s no longer autodesk. Turns out an ex autodesk dev got the rights after autodesk dropped support and kept on updating it. Pretty cool. Now I want to try it again

•I did compare Sketchbook the last time I did this experiment which is both why I still have it and also how I found out they didn’t have clipping masks on ios back then. So this was a welcome and unexpected surprise. I surely didnt intend to even try it again since I thought it was simply not as powerful as my other options. Im happy to have another capable app available to pick from!!!
