I have a sketching problem and I need advice!
Okay, so the problem is that... I don't really sketch. At all. I only do full drawings, I never got into the habit of filling sketchbooks with sketches or doodles or practice drawings. It seems to be something most artists do and I think that letting myself sketch and practice would be really good for me to learn more about different elements (anatomy and facial expressions especially) but I don't really know where to start.
Any ideas?May 19, 2021

Every artist have different approach. I don't see it as a problem rather a preference.
I love to sketch/doodle and carry a sketchbook everywhere. It gives me the possibility to let go of expectations, experiment and I can just have fun. But everyone is different and have different approach. Don't push yourself.

•I don’t do much sketches like that either I have this habit that where I have to pump out full drawings but sometimes that’s not the case and I’m learning that

•I used to sketch a lot but once I started doing digital I was (and still am) obsessed with make full rendered pieces every. Single. Time. Even when I didn’t mean to! Right now I’m collecting reference websites on a bookmarked folder on my computer so I can plan sketching sessions and I could just pull up one of the sites to practice! I also like saving references, tutorials, other peoples art, etc on ig save folders to copy as practice. I think the key is not only scheduling time to sketch and practice, but also setting yourself up with specific things to work on so you don’t feel overwhelmed

•I don't do sketches much either. I find that when I do anatomy practice I end up liking the pose too much and finishing it. However recently I've been finding nude art models (like life drawing, I use artmodeltips , obviously there is nudity so be mindful) and when I don't have any ideas I wanna draw, I'll sit with YouTube or music on and just approach it like homework

•The Great thing about doodling and sketching in a sketchbook is that they don't have to be good ideas or good drawings
Just draw whatever comes to mind and don't try to make it perfect

Probably just start with doodles or scribbles just to get used to the idea of making unpolished art. Then I guess draw whatever you want. It doesn’t even have to look “sketchy” most of the stuff in my sketchbook looks pretty clean and complete. Basically a sketchbook I’d for any kind of experimenting that you wanna do

I wouldn't stress about it too much. My own sketchbook habits are horrible and inconsistent
That said, I do sketch if I need to study and reference something.
