Giant Wyvern
Creature I made to better flesh out my fantasy world, Nim.I'll probably be making more of these.
Native to the savannahs and plains of Nim's southern continent, Torra. This wyvern is considered one of the largest creatures on the planet capable of powered flight. Approximately the size of a T. rex, and with jaws strong enough to crush bone, this massive carnivore mostly feeds on carrion, often bullying smaller predators into abandoning their kills. However, don't be fooled—this creature is more than capable of hunting, usually by landing close to its prey and wrestling it to the ground, killing swiftly by snapping the neck, or crushing the skull.
Though these wyverns are capable of flight, they are poor flyers, and spend most of their time in the ground, only flying to scout out corpses or to ambush an unsuspecting animal. They are very dependent on air currents to fly, and when conditions are particularly unfavourable, sometimes they cannot even get airborne.
They usually live alone or in mating pairs, only tolerating their young until they are old enough to fly, and then chasing them away.
Giant Torran wyverns have sharp sight, almost as good as that of an eagle, as well as an excellent sense of smell. They use this to locate prey or carrion.
*Fun fact: although they are not domesticated, native Torran Nimeans have been observed to tame and ride giant wyverns.
