Really? Maybe the brand? I only use my gel pens for outlines or eye sparkles but, I've had the same ones for years. I use jellyrolls.

Oh no I hate it when mine dies 
idk if yours is just dry or completely finished, but personally when mine gets dry and has clumps of gel on the ball point, I take the ink thing out of the pen and soak it in hot/warm water for 5 minutes at least, but only the ball point part not the entire thing or the ink will leak out. I find this to be helpful and it saved me from throwing perfectly working gel pens, you can try this if your pen is dry
