Behind the Art -- Rocks
The sketch shows what the sketchbook is concealing. In other words, I drew what's behind the sketchbook. The idea for this piece was to combine traditional art with nature (thanks @trinitythelostflame) and get outside!First I chose a location and photographed it both without the sketchbook and with (open to a blank page. Then I went back inside to draw, using the two photos as a reference. Finally, I put the sketchbook back outside where it had been, and took a photo from the same angle.
I had fun -- I may do a few more like this, though it was a lot more challenging than I had expected. It's hard to make out much of anything in the sketch. Aligning the sketchbook for the final photo was just as difficult as drawing right to the edge of the page and hoping it will continue seamlessly when I'm done.
