Flounce Gown & Glitch Stitch Binder Sketch

An early sketch of the Flounce Gown and Glitch Stitch Binder from my Digital Monarch collection.

Multiple respondents to my online survey of trans and nonbinary people expressed frustration that clothing marketed as gender-neutral “never includes dresses and pretty things”. Many respondents who bind, have had top surgery or are AMAB, pointed out a lack of dresses designed for flat chests that don’t create the look of a full bust.

So my aim for this outfit was indulgence and maximalism, inspired by frothy fairytale dresses (think Selkie, Fairy Tong and Teuta Matoshi). I wanted to invite wearers with flat chests and wearers who bind to share in the joy of twirling in a flared skirt without the attached expectations of binary femininity. So there is no cinched-in waist, and no plunge neckline - instead there is a pointed shirt collar and a voluminous organza skirt which completely obscures the shape of the wearer’s waist and hips.

I also designed a binder that would layer over the dress as a cohesive part of the outfit, instead of being concealed. The shape is inspired by half-tank binders and short Regency-era stays. It is fastened with buckles at the front, so it can be quickly loosened if necessary and more easily removed.

Ooooh so prettyyy
Interesting and you are so right! You hardly see delicate stuff and dresses, usually people Tengo assume gender neutral as masculine. So good you are going to design that type of clothing, this design is gorgeous ❤️
