[OC:Jack & Ross] "I'm just here for you, kid"The scene is really about them talking about fatherhood without daring to say it outright.
Jack is angry with his father and has spent years pushing him away, but subconsciously he has turned Ross into the father figure he’s missing. Ross knows it. That’s why he takes him outside the station: he doesn’t want to speak to him as the boss, but as someone who understands what it means to be a father.
While trying to convince Jack to reconcile with his family, Ross is actually projecting his own feelings; a father would do anything for his child, even make terrible mistakes trying to protect them. And Jack, hears those words as if they were coming from the father he always needed
