I’m considering taking commissions (not until august because ill be busy with ArtFight)

I was wondering if anyone had any advice/could explain their process.

I know next to nothing about selling artwork online. I’ve always been confused about giving a client digital files (like resolution and also ownership) and then the payment method.

I’m guessing there’s multiple ways to do it, but I’m sorta clueless so I was wondering if anyone had any advice or could point me towards some resources

I currently don’t take commissions yet, but here’s my plan for how the process will go!

1. I’ll announce when I’m open for commissions

2. Clients will fill out a Google Form that will act as the commission form.

3. I’ll check over the form & make sure it doesn’t break my TOS (stuff like if they’re wanting me to draw illegal art, or incorporate pride flags that support something gross like zoophilia, will reject the form if this happens)

4. Accepted forms get contacted & I require full payment before I send them anything or start any work on the commission. (This is because people will scam sketches out of artists, so I don’t wanna take any chances!)

5. I’ll start working on the commission, contact the client to make sure everything looks right before moving onto the next step (sketch, lineart, color/shading)

6. Send them the finished image! I plan on them being 350 resolution PNGs! 350 is like the 2nd highest resolution I can make & PNGs don’t get all pixelly over time (being uploaded & re-sent places) like how I think JPEGs do!

Definitely have a TOS that explains the process of commissioning you & explains what is & isn’t allowed for the client to do during the commission process & what they can & cannot do with their finished product. A big one is letting them know whether or not the art can be used for commercial use (meaning they can use the art to make money, no money will probably go to you) like NFTs or putting the art on cups to sell. Letting them know whether or not you take cryptocurrency is probably important too.

I hope this helps!
