Why do people hide who they are? I have adhd should I hide that because people wouldn’t understand. It confuses me that people who have something they hide it. But why? Some reasons might be getting backlash or bullied but still I feel we should all be who we are in the future or now. For clarification I’m talking about hiding in real life.Nov 13, 2023

here I'm being diagnosed with either autism, ADD or both, I've been hidding to not be laughed at since I was bullied everywhere when I was a kid and a teen. now I got tired, in fact, now I say what I don't like and show what I really am. I don't care anymore, it's part of who I am and I won't deny my nature
I don't go everywhere saying that I might be one of these or both, I just let myself be and, if someone asks, I tell them. and if they start treating me like a baby or something like that, I just tell them they look ridiculous/childish

•for me is bc i have smth that is still very very poorly misconceived and poorly understood that even mentioning it on the internet will probably illicit ill or wary reactions. it is not adhd or autism. it is not a personality disorder either.
so i will absolutely not mention it irl.
it could be very bad for me.

•I think a big part of it is the fact that some people will treat you poorly for certain things
for me it’s a mixture of that combined with anxiety. I find it really hard to share some things about myself because I’m scared of negative reactions from some people/ being made fun of etc. hiding isn’t fun but it can be difficult to stop if you’re so used to doing it

•Autistic person and we have a thing called “masking” where we completely try to hide our disability from people. And honestly I’m tired of hiding because, a bunch of people automatically decided we’re a disease and damaged goods all because our brains are wired differently.
•
•I am a person who is very open about their disability because it effects every part of me. That being said, if I knew someone would hurt me, bully, me, or target me in someway for being autistic I would not tell them I’m autistic for my own safety. Unless your in danger/potential danger I see no reason to hide your adhd because while it may be a disability that doesn’t mean it has to be a bad thing. It can be a neutral thing because it has both positives and negatives to it.
