Calliope is Giselle's doll, through which the elf speaks. Unlike her puppeteer she's lively, overactive and joyful - and she's well aware of both her being a puppet and part of the tale Giselle's writing. This does not stop her from speaking her own mind sometimes, trying to help in any way she can.
As cliché as that sounds I've always liked dolls, to the point of wanting some for characters in a certain story of mine...
Back to Giselle, her concept revolves around these "mechanical dolls", and with her past as puppeteer I could give the worst of me in creating the ghillies, small beings born of Giselle's and Phoebe's fantasy.
With Calliope I wanted to underline her contrast with the elf's clothing, so her colours are light and vivid: potentilla, lilac and carnation are the floreal themes of the doll....and the one thing linking the two together, as Giselle wears those same flowers upon her hat.
I can't speak too much about Callipe and her meaning yet, but I'll leave you with a fun fact: she argued with Poenitet. More than once.May 8, 2021
