I have some questions for the fellow artists here!! So I’m thinking of moving away from Instagram because I’m finding it harder and harder to cope with the algorithm and finding a community (especially when I don’t upload that much) is difficult so I was wondering what the vibe was on Twitter, is it rlly difficult to gain attention for you artwork on there? Do people prefer digital or are there traditional artists on there also? Any help is appreciated thank you!Jul 13, 2021

I've had better luck on insta tbh. At least most artists I meet irl have insta accounts so it's been easier to become mutuals and support each other! On Twitter even if we're mutuals I never manage to catch my friends art. So to me it's harder to be part of the Twitter community.

•I’m having the same delema. From what I can tell, to get your art noticed, you really have to go all out. Post often, comment and interact with as many artist as possible (without trying promote yourself). Just posting your art on social media is not enough.

Moving away from IG is a good thing to do, because Instagram is not Instagram, they're the new TikTok/YouTube Kind of thing. The algorithm and their "community" always tries to destroy artists. But nowadays they're forcing some users to do reeeeeeeels because... Who knows?!
But i recommend you to stay on Instagram and stay doing the things you do on the platform. Just stay for fun. Don't lose your attention on the insights. I don't move away from IG because most of my friends don't use Facebook, and also i have works published only on the platform (like some traditional art, and a lot of DTIYS)
On Twitter depends on how you share your stuff. For me is very difficult, because I don't interact that much, and I don't participate in the challenges that people create (like "Portifolio Day" or "Meet the artist") so... >_<
Try to interact with small artists, try to participate into the challenges, talk with artists that you like the most, share your tips/tricks of your Artworks, share/help other artists... Maybe it functions. I don't know.
For me, nowadays, DeviantArt, ArtStation and Bēhance is my favorite places to share my work. Artfol is pretty cool too. Here I don't need to waste my time on numbers of likes, or the percentual of reached people.

•From my experience on there, it can be pretty difficult to gain an audience, but with a little luck (ie a big account retweeting your work) and some consistent posting you can gain a sizable following. It also seems to me like if you have a specific thing that you only ever draw then that helps a lot rather than making miscellaneous fanart of a variety of sources.

•From my experience, people prefer digital but it's really hard to start off on Twitter. Fanart definitely thrives there more than original work when it comes to getting attention. Also Twitter can be extremely toxic at times. Some of the non algorithm problems of Instagram like tracers or people not crediting.
For me I've had Twitter for 3 years and only have 20 followers (less than any other social media I operate) though I used to post daily and consistently for months and never got the attention or comments or stuff like that.
Tho I've seen some people also do really well on Twitter, it's mostly digital fanartists or aesthetic. The experience differs from person to person though.

•According to my sibling, artist on Twitter since 2015, it’s really nice but it can be difficult I’ve only really seen professional and intermediate artists grow on there. I remember when they first started out they were part of a lot of big projects: zines, acrylic charm art, etc. and their account grew a lot. Since they’re not as active as before ofc the account is not growing but they said it’s fun!
People prefer digital art definitely (I’ve actually never found a traditional artist on Twitter). Occasionally artists post sketches but that’s really all for traditional art from what I’ve seen.
