I’m doing wood burning this week in school anyone have any suggestions for what I should do?

I've done this type of art and i still do. I loved and i love It. The tips i can give you is to by a good wood burner, possibly with a temperature controller, (i got one that goes from 20 to 850 C° ) or one that goes from 250 watt to 500 watt, and of course a bounch of good sipkes . The spikes you must have are generally 4/5 types : pointed , thin pointed for lines and details,(like eyes , eyebrows and etc...), Chisel to make large areas and fast burns, large chisel and a leaf pointed spike. This kind of spike helps you to be versatile, from shadows to light shadows and lines as well. The wood you'll need to get is purchaseasble on Amazon or course, i recommend you to use is poplar. It good for soft shades and hard lines , it a 50/50 % hardness / quality wood ratio.
Another thing that will help you is sand paper, you must use it on wood before doing any job on it (sketch or burn), possibly take a fine one. The sand paper helps you to clean the wood from dust, to make some corrections and well some highlights too if a shadow is too dark.
It also helps to clean the spikes after usage.
Of course stay safe and try to not inhale the smoke of wood (even if it's not dangerous).

•Äh i remember wood burning, almost got a couple of fingers singed. It can get very hot, and the room can get pretty hot too if ya have multiple people doing wood burning and also smelly lul. What type of wood and subject are ya doing the wood burning on ? (:
