Personal opinion: Unnecessary arguments can be avoided if all the parent does is simply give a “yes” or “no” or a “perhaps next time” to a simple question and leave it at that. Doing so lessens the fear of getting yelled at just for asking said question

Another note: It’s not that a child is possibly losing their “disrespect” just by proving a point, it’s the parent that’s losing their patience with their responses
