are online art classes like class101 or skillshare worth it? a couple artists i really like have classes on class101 and skillshare seems interesting but both can get expensive so i’m tentative about it. my art class at school is lacking and really limits creativity, so i went to branch out and try to learn elsewhere.May 10, 2021

Hm depends one the class, but a lot of them really gives you good advices. Plus they are some really affordable ones on gumrod for example, for like 5 bucks.

But they won’t make you better artist but maybe give you information in general ?
Like I would go for classes on color theory and lighting, because I feel those were the courses I got the most value from. And they won’t impact your style too much too!
I personally don’t go for those classes but that’s due to my own thoughts and preferences on them. I find those classes only help if you want to do stuff very similar to the artist’s stylistic choices and workflow, if that makes sense. I’d rather a class that works for my own way of drawing and still builds on it rather than taking it in a complete different direction.
However, although I say that, I haven’t actually taken those classes before (well, maybe like 1???) so I can’t be sure that they’re all like that 🥲
I have no idea, I just wish that the certification they give have a curricular value (I think it does with some of the courses)
