How to train your dragon nine realms thoughts
Finished up the 6 episode first season recently. Its not a burning dumpster fire I can laugh at. But it really needed more than 6 episodes to try to pull off what it tried. Gonna go into spoilers now its gonna be a long post

I thought Tom and Jun’s dragon meetings where both really awkward, and not pulled off well. Toms is just re-hashed movie scenes but drawn out for jokes, ugh. Tom is supposed to be the stubborn adventurous one, but he has no regard for anyones feelings, by 4 episodes in hes suddenly acting like a dragon expert. Jun is overconfident and then instantly messes things up. I really didn’t like how her dragon meeting went either. The dragons are not supposed to understand english, makes sense, they barely met people, yet Wu and Wei react to her change of heart and she somehow frees them by telling them to do what they could always do by themselves anyway.
The other kids, I really like though. D’angelo is my favorite for his natural honesty, and his dragon meeting makes sense and seems completely natural. Same for Alex, the introvert thrown into madness. The only part of her meeting I didn’t like was Tom bursting in to preach about destiny. Bleh.
I really like the setting! They keep it very unique and being modern does not hinder it at all! The dragon designs are pretty good....there was some very odd choices made in the proportions and how they changed furys. I really love the idea of nightlights being the new furies! And it CAN actually make sense with black being a dominate gene, various black white and grey furys being the future, I adore it. But no idea why they changed the design to be....chunkier, the chest is big, the paws are big, the face is flatter, and it just does not look quite right. But designs are just one part and mostly, the dragons look great and interesting. I really don’t like how overly friendly Thunder is basically instantly. And knows english right off the bat. But thats a problem of only having 6 episodes and needing to rush a setup.
Now the ending. I got mad at Tom for sending the dragons away for a bit, then INSTANTLY WANTING THEM BACK instead of trusting his own parents. They don’t know what the company would actually do, they just assume they know better because adults and companies= bad. And the cliffhanger. Hoo boy. I already saw some sillyness with dragons knowing english instantly...but magical genetic memory fire stamps is crossing it a bit. I get it, its supposed to be tied to the past, they are repeating history. But goodness I hope they don’t rely on that because its REAL predictable and not new or interesting.
I have a feeling it only got 6 episodes and stuffed onto hulu to kill the project as soon as it was done. Maybe it will get a second season. (I would be happy if the parents get to find out about dragons). And I would like it, just to have something httyd spinoff to watch not made for toddlers. Not a dumpster fire, but has problems.
