Genuine question! I know a lot of artists out there aspire to make art their full time job, but are there any of you who actually would rather keep it solely as a hobby?

I’ve studied video game art, but after graduation, in a mix of not knowing what specialization to go towards and not being able to keep up with the competitiveness of the industry, I’ve been slowly letting go of the idea of working as an artist and have been looking into other avenues.
Which is okay by me, because art is something incredibly personal to me and I don’t think I’m willing to push myself in order to fit industry standards. I want to keep my passion high and strong and create what makes me happy above all else ✨

Anyone with similar experience?

I'd rather keep it as a hobby beacouse idk... I feel like I would end up getting bored of drawing as a job, also I'm interested in other carreers
Definitely! I have a hard time even keeping up with commissions, I think having an art career would kill the joy for me
For me it's definitely a hobby and I took that decision pretty early in life. There is just so much to explore and it's not because you like doing art stuff that you can't be passionate about something else and decide to venture into other exciting avenues! The important is to be happy and feeling accomplished by what you do!
I trained as an illustrator and have a graphic design degree. After that I worked in the job for two years and was fired because of Corona Last year. Now I work as a secretary at a property management company and I'm so much happier 😅
If I have a choice I wouldn't like to go back to my learned job... I like it better when I can use my creativity for private projects than to fight with customers who all want the same thing and don't give you any freedom ^^"
But these are my experiences and what is the best for me, others may feel differently :)
My dream job is to be a photographer. I guess you could say that's art, but I'd much rather keep my drawing/painting as a hobby
Same, I dunno if I can deal with a thing I love becoming grueling work, only for passive income
Honestly I recognised pretty early on that art just wouldn't be a good career for me. I know that sometimes my brain is just... Head empty no thoughts when it comes to art ideas. That and... Arts always been fun for me, and having to do it as a job felt like it would suck the fun out.
I did do a general game dev course at uni for a
Yeah, I’m really interested in pursuing astronomy. Math, music and farming are all fields I’m down to work in as a second choice
i used to dream of becoming a mangaka. now, while i'd like to earn money for my art (hence why i opened commissions), i'd like to keep it as more of an optional side-job 🤷‍♀️
Uh maybe. I'm in a confusing place rn so idk, game dev stuff looks interesting to me but that's like the whole process of making a game including art, so idk if that'll burn me out. I don't mind art as a hobby tho, it's less stressful
I do a lot of different art and I’m pursuing concept art/asset design/visual development as a career but I want to keep my sculpting and more craft work as a hobby
Yup! ^^ I feel like I would actually burn out and just overall hate art if I were to make it a job. Even though I’ve been doing art for years I don’t see myself making it into a career at all

And just like you my art is personal to me, profiting off my more personal art is just a bit weird to me

Plus I can’t really see myself drawing every hour every day that seems stressful to me
i don’t think it’ll be full time because i want to be an author but i wouldn’t mind if it were to be full time either
I definitely don’t think I can make art my full time job and still enjoy it (at least where I’m at in life right now)

I’ve never considered making my art a job -mostly because I have no business drive- and because it seems like too much work and worry and I’d rather just draw :,,)

Maybe some other creative art type job that isn’t drawing specifically would suit me tho? I’m honestly not sure lmao
