Question: What's the worst "criticism" someone has ever said about your art?
Mine was that my artwork is meaningless because I didn't give it a good one. That specific artwork was a gift I made for a friend, it was shipart between her oc and Zhongli. Of course I won't be able to give it "meaning", it's not my oc, and I don't play Genshin. It's shipart, what more meaning do I have to give other than "oh I made this for a friend, and it's her oc and zhongli being in love"?
After that the conversation became an argument as to what art truly was. I was trying so hard to keep my composure and not go ham on his ass.

•Someone once just flat out called my art bad. It was back in elementary school so of course my art was bad

Well I don’t know how to say this but my sister once said this in a rage that “I can’t draw so I should just leave it” I mean it was years ago but I really admired her art at that time so like coming from a person I respected I guess it impacted my younger self a lot.
Right after she said that I had stopped drawing. Now I don’t let such unnecessary statements get to me :)

•once i sent my irl friend art of our favorite character and he asked "why are her eyes so big" .....because i draw chibis and they're bug eyed little friends? honorable mention to the person on my insta who simply left the comment "ugly" on a piece, i plan to print it out and frame it one of these days

•"There are no lines in art!" So ... every comic, cartoon, semi realism or sureal style is no art?
•
•Dang... That sounds bad, art shouldn't be seen that it needs to have a really "deep" meaning, still, a gift for a friend already have a good meaning
There was that time my pops in response to an anthro Lizard-Fairy-Esgrimist character I designed said "Very extrange whoever came with that" without knowing I made them, still, that was ages ago and now he's cool with that kind of art
And here's other, an Uncle always used to said that I should make something original, I always thought it was for the Fanart, and I still have made a lot of original characters, but later realized he meant original as making a story with a character, like a comic or something

•The one critic that i didn’t inmediately forget has to be that one time some dude on amino told me my drawings were dumb bc they had 3 fingers

•I haven’t gotten a lot really
But once some random on deviantart added one of my drawings to a collection called “the worst f*cking cringe DA has to offer” or something like that. I just thought it was funny cause it was an innocent pic of my OCs on a beach, I’ve seen much worse ‘cringe’ there lol

•I remember one time I showed my mom this really detailed drawing I did of two of my OC’s in a room, and my mom said something along the lines of “why are her thighs so big?”. Felt very unnecessary but also projected her idea that all bodies should look a certain way :/

•So in am art class in 5th grade I had a sub in my class and I had finished the assignment early so I was drawing on the back of the paper. The sun saw that and said , “ Oh nu uh this is not gonna work, that style is unacceptable and this is destroying the art on the front of this page I need you to erase it right now.”

•In a phrase: “you like that Japanese stuff, don’t you.” This was from a professor when I was 19 or 20.
I’ve been trying to get away from anime influence since I was 14.
To her credit, though, I don’t think she MEANT to hurt my feelings? She’s really nice to me, I think she just doesn’t like my figure work very much
which like, she’s entitled to that.

•Mmm well once an art teacher said my sketches looked like coloring book pages, but honestly, fair, everyone including me hated that class so I didn’t put much effort into it

•The non-troll comment that stung the most was when an acquaintance said that their heart "hurt" any time they saw my art and that there were many simple ways to improve. I know they didn't mean it in a rude way, but it was bad enough for me to cry over the fact that I was mostly likely looking at the "wrong places" to improve. This was last year.
