If you want a solid color look, color the area in as quickly as you can while being careful around the edges (unless you don’t care about coloring outside of the lines!)
If you want a gradient effect, add at least 2 colors at a time & take a bit of water on your brush & blend!
Little torn up pieces of paper towels work really well as watercolor erasers, but only when the watercolor is wet & hasn’t been sitting there for too long. I keep a few smushed into a ball shape for large areas while I twist up several pieces for small & tighter areas! To “erase,” just dab the little paper towel piece onto the spot you want to lighten/try to get rid of. It typically doesn’t fully go away, but it’s a lot better than having a wrong color!
Have a piece of paper/small pieces of paper for testing the colors on before you actually color anything on your art!
You want to color the same character consistently, keep a list of how to mix certain colors & how many times you have to color over each area, (EX: Eyes - Blue + Green - 4 coats)

don't be scared to layer the colours !! as soon as I started my pieces looked a lot better

Normally I advocate for “doesn’t matter the quality of the material you can still do great work” but for watercolor get good quality stuff!!! Make sure your paper is thick enough and tape down the paper to the surface you’re painting on so that the paper doesn’t curl
