Suggestive content, DNI UNDER 16I’m not sure what it is but from last year and this year I’ve seemed to not like Disney/Pixar’s animated movies as much as I’ve like movies from other companies like DreamWorks, Sony, and even illumination. I’m surprised I liked illumination recent movies more than Disneys. I guess I just had more fun watching minions 2 and their Mario movie. Have they actually gone down hill or is it my preferences? Idk

True, I dunno what it is but modern disney and pixar animations feel sterile, like if you compare it with the original tarzan or mulan, its worlds apart

I do get the feeling there's SOMEONE in the Disney leadership that really doesn't like animation.... Dunno who. But they're definitely not on their A game, and the fact they're doing a live action remake of a movie less than 10 years old kinda speaks volumes to me....
I definitely thought Encanto was a b tier film at best. Haven't watched strange world, but I know others don't think it's their best work. They certainly dropped that movie with no advertising whatsoever /:
Turning red is probably the best Disney/pixar have made in a while. And the trailer I saw for the elemental film while watching mario was... Not great. It felt more like a random no-name studios work in concept, rather than /Pixar/ yaknow? Maybe the story will save it, but the concept feels like someone trying to emulate the Pixar formula.
Meanwhile DreamWorks is probably on their best ever form. I can't say for illumination, BC the only film of theirs I've ever seen is mario and... It failed to entertain me. And sony is, at the very least, leading the push for more interesting visuals (haven't seen spiderverse 2 yet). A trend Disney seems to think it can ignore, and is kinda key to DreamWorks last 2 films.
Idk, it just feels like Bad Times for the Disney animation studios, when it almost feels like every other major studio is putting out their best work these last few years. Disney need to step up their game to compete, rather than think everyone is still miles behind them

Everyone has different preferences on what makes a banger animated film, of course, but for many it feels like Disney/Pixar are in a slump. Idk if it's because of COVID getting families used to watching their recent films on Disney+ instead of theaters, the surprise change of leadership from Chapek to Iger, or the layoffs, but something about their recent projects(with the exception of Turning Red)feels like there's no heart to them.
