You dont need to go to an artschool. The private price is not worth it. But I would highly reccomend shopping around to schools that have art degrees/programs. My community college had a professor that worked at prestegious schools. She tried very hard to get me to go to cali or new york on scholarship. I was like with what $ to move and provide for myself while there?

•Expensive as hell, and you can def still find good programs if you look for them. My Professor for 3D animation is also an animator at Oblivion and that was just a community collage class. Also I know at least in SoCal where the art scene is big- a lot of teachers will also teach at UCI schools along with your LCADs and CalArts

Any school’s only real value is to help build connections for after school. You can do this at anywhere. Something to keep in mind is that going to art school does not guarantee a career in a creative field. Most hiring managers don’t care if you went to SCAD or Cal Arts or even if you went to school at all; what they care about is if you can do the work and show up on time. When looking at any school i’d recommend finding out what type of connections they have with the local art community as far as getting into internships and part-time jobs. Because that will be far more valuable than the classes themselves. Getting experience by actually doing art and building those relationships is what is going to build the foundation for future endeavors.
I personally was a business administration major at a small christian school in Nashville. After graduating I was hired by a record label to be a full-time graphic designer. All this to say you don’t necessarily need to go to art school if you want a creative career, you can study whatever you want as it’s more about the connections and relationships you build at school and skills you grow in your own time.

When you think of art school you probably think art all day and nothing else but thats not true
You do have to study every other subject you just have extra art classes
I just finished my first year and i honestly expected more art. I didnt learn much new, we didnt do anything interesting, most classes we were talking more than actually drawing
However this wont be like this next year because the first year is kinda just to see wheres everyone at and teach some basics
I study graphic design so maybe this is different if you study like fine arts
Its importand to mention that the community in art school is so amazing, most people are accepting and supporting, kinda like collecting the outcasts in one place
My art did improve a lot, thanks to geting lots of advice from both students and friends
I think if you want to have an art career its worth it however it wont be all just art and nothing else

•I'm going to a college that has a good art program. It's not exactly an art exclusive school but I think the question still applies.
I'm going because it's the best way for me to learn stuff. If I don't, then I'll never get anywhere due to procrastination. Art is one of the few careers where you don't need a bachelor's in order to get a job (just a damn good portfolio). So you can learn everything from home without worrying about scholarships and stuff.
I find it's also a good way to get a peak in how art is handled professionally. You could also meet people who's been there and done that in person and connect with other students who have similar experiences.
The cons of going to art classes is that it's much like a commission where you're tasked to do certain things whether you enjoy it or not. And if you get a failing grade, you run the risk of losing your scholarships. They will also expect good results and progress. If you can't make an assignment deadline multiple times, you're in for a world of hurt.
The only silver lining is that you could stretch your creative muscles within those limitations. My teacher always told me Rules Set You Free when it comes to art and, yeah, that is true.
There's also the problem that schools are always hella expensive (unless you're in Europe).
All in all, art school would be useful to get some experience in a professional setting. But if you hated the High School setting, I doubt you'll like a college one. Though, college is a little more lax when it comes to scheduling, so I'll give them that. But I don't know if this art school is like college.
