【Storytime/vent】
So I have a relative. He's a rich and successful man, has 12 cars and manages many hotels and restaurants. He gave his kids their own cars and their own house after they graduated highschool, but that didn't turn them to be spoiled, privileged kids. Instead, they turned out to be great, independent people.

I visited him when I was taking the time off from college, or to be exact, after I got dropped out from college recently. I was confused and didn't know what to do with my life. I have failed to finish college 3 times now and currently unemployed. That's not a good look for someone who came from a less fortunate family. I went to him for advice and to seek his guidance. I expected the typical "oh i'm sorry things didn't work out, keep trying! You'll be just fine."

But these are the things he told me:
"At your age, I've worked hard before everyone's awake and still worked after everyone's asleep. My own family didn't think much of me when I didn't finish college the first time, but I just didn't stop there and kept proving myself without thinking much about what everyone says about me. I went to college again some years later. I took many jobs and worked my way up. And now I'm the one who they come to for help.

Support? Why do you need support? You don't need that. You're not a child anymore, so all you can do is to prove to everyone that you are capable of taking care of yourself or end up as a nobody. Prove yourself regarless if you got support or not. You take control of your own life, not anyone else."

It's a tough love that I don't receive from my own family. It hurt, but that's because it is true. He went through so much worse at my age, and now he's just enjoying the fruits of his labor. He wants to see me succeed. He doesn't coddle me, but it's how he shows his care for me. I wished I had received it sooner. I needed it.

With that, comes a new motivation. It's like a slap on the face that woke me up from my days of moping around doing nothing but complain about how bad my life is. When I have my hands on my drawing tablet, I'm going to have to follow his advice and work my ass off.

I hope everyone who reads this can learn from my experience and realize that sometimes we all need a little tough love to improve ourselves.
