Does anyone else get nervous when you intend to do a more polished piece of art? I think this is why I do so many smaller drawings on low quality pocket notebook paper rather than larger drawings on “the good paper.” I feels like more pressure.Aug 15, 2021

I dont think so for myself. I tend to make the same habits and mistakes from sketches to finished pieces but i do find if its just sketches, I go back to refine them, even months or years later. Commissions are where I find I have a lot more scrutiny and go much slower, though.

•Not really anymore. I realised that I can't use up my stuff. It's like magic. It just won't go empty. I've drawn so many drawings with my school colours and the pans won't go empty. I bought cheap stuff to test stuff out... It won't go empty so I don't buy the good archival stuff... Paper? Fml is have so many pads. Books? I have one for every medium! I want to get rid of them and I can't 
My motto is "if at least one person likes what you've done it was worth it". And most of the time at least one person likes the stupid things I create. It's not the expensive paper or colour that makes it cool but the passion and skills put into it. If you use cheap paper who cares? If you like the end result nice. If not try the good paper. Most of the times the reason for "failure" is bad paper. And if you done something nice on cheap paper you can always scan it and print on good paper afterwards

•Yooo yeah I definitely feel that,, anytime I pull out my fancier markers I always feel like I have to like draw more seriously or it has to be like a higher effort piece

•Yeah, for sure. I just try to think (if it’s a gif or commission) that the person I give it to will enjoy it, or it’ll make them happy. That idea usually helps get rid of feeling nervous. I think a lot of artists, myself included, also struggle to feel ok with using supplies they see as “expensive” (Like fancy water color paper versus the cheap stuff I usually use), but… I think it’s also true that different brushes, paper, paint — they can make a different experience for creating art. And you deserve that experience. And if you like the effect of those materials, or you want to experiment more, you deserve to keep using them! Likewise, if you want to draw masterpieces or doodles on lined paper, that’s totally cool too.
(Especially with paper I always own because people gave it to me or whatever, I tell myself that if I don’t use it, someone else might end up throwing it away… so using it is certainly better than that, right?)

•Yes I'm not sure why but I feel like my art style totally changes when I draw on good quality paper
