Needing critique and sizing advice for printing
Hello, today I bring a request for critique and some sizing advice, but first, say hello to Molly! She's my uncle's dog.Basically, he commissioned two portraits from me for his dogs a while after they passed away, and I've been struggling with the finishing touches on this one for a while.
A few things I know I need some pointers on are the eyes. They just never look the right size compared to her head.
Then there's the stone podium, I'm working on getting texture and the right angle.
Lastly, the bush/tree mess I ended up adding to make the whole thing feel more alive. The photo I'm referencing was taken in autumn, I believe, and the tree behind her was all branches, so I took some creative liberty with the background.
I'm also having some sizing issues, I'm going to frame this when it's done. What would you say is the best way to go about it? I kind of want to do the border thing for an A4 print.Aug 23, 2023

It looks like you have the correct measurements at 350 dpi. If you get it done at a local printer, you could request a border and they should do the sizing for you.
You could probably feel better about the eyes if you did some separate sketch studies to better understand their placement. If your uncle could send you more pictures as reference that would be ideal.

Now the eyes I understand are kinda tricky, maybe size them up a little bit and maybeee move them upwards a just a smidgen?
Id most importantly say that there should be a rim? a side? (idk what exactly it's called) on the stone plate she's standing on (since it's basically a very flat cube yk) I think that could really help because otherwise the podium looks pretty realistic to me :]
Also it might help to add some even lighter/less blended-in highlights to help distinguish Molly from the plants so she doesn't get lost in there!! (you can always turn to greyscale to check your values)
