Short rant ?? kind of
I don't understand why some people (specifically targeting my mother here) think cartoons and/or anime art are a lesser form of art/artstyle compared to painting or fine arts and stuff like that
like, they're all art, each require different styles and skill sets, so I don't see why cartoons are seen as less just because they are/look like they're targeted to younger audiences (not including adult cartoons or anime)
maybe it's just because my mother has an old or traditional way of thinking, but she thinks paintings, portraits, realism, and architecture are the actual forms of art that take time and skill
I can tell she thinks less of cartoons, anime, cosplay, abstract art, etc, even animation (even though animation takes a lot of time)Feb 7, 2024

It's a very non-artist way of thinking. I have friends who can only draw realism and are VERY impressed that I can draw the same character multiple times and have them look the same each time, and not have drastic changes in style or in the characters' traits. Stylised art is difficult to learn too and just as valid as realistic art

I think it's more about the technique itself, because I think they might see cartoon/ anime artstyle as "cheat artstyle" because they thought artstyle like that doesn't required you to working hard on learning anatomy and proportion
