Drabble: About Raine and her Name
(Unedited)She was the head of the investigative unit in the bureau: BANDIT.
People called on her and her team for all their problems. Whether that be solving the case of a missing unicorn tusk, or cleaning up a ghoulish gut spill, or planting poisonous florals to keep away the locals’ pesky garden pixies.
A character of fire and rain, mortality and magic, friend yet perpetual foe. Made of flesh and blood, yet belonged in neither a world of mortals nor a world of myths. A mystical in-between that walked a border of different worlds and different rules.
They called her name and she would come.
They called her in both fear and relief, in sickness and in health, in desperation and in pitiful jest, in disdain, contempt, disgust... and just rarely... in a quiet affection.
The name for a girl of crimson and gold, of fire under the guise of a gentle rain.
...
“It’s funny. My name doesn’t suit me at all, don’t you think?” She asked her friend one uneventful afternoon.
“The woman that gave it to me once said that she wanted me a gentle name. A name that would hide everything of a person inside a neatly wrapped box, until the next person that dared open it was either sorely mistaken by who I was, or accepted the gift in it’s entirety ...inside, outside, and all.”
Raine leaned forward to meet the thoughtful gaze of her partner, who frowned before shifting the documents in his arm and placing a gentle hand on her head instead. A gesture of comfort, she guessed.
He knew what came next.
“What happened to the woman?”
She paused for a moment, straightening herself, before speeding a few paces ahead of him.
“Well. Let’s just say she had deluded herself in the wrapping paper she picked out so much that, she forgot what was inside and simply...gave the box away.”
Raine closed her eyes, losing herself in a faraway time. Of hate for a woman who’d been lost in her own mistakes, of hospital rooms, and the boy she befriended there.
And that’s how I met you.”
...
That was a whole story dump and I have such a cryptic style and nothing makes sense because the rest of the context of the story hasn’t been written here yet Agh I’m sorry. there will be more, and it’ll either be decent or painful I don’t know.Mar 15, 2021
