Mari Lwyd Dragon
Are you ready to rap battle to protect your food and alcohol from the Christmas season beast? The Mari Lywd is an old wassailing tradition (like door-to-door caroling) from South Wales where someone with a skull hobby horse, hidden under a white sheet draped with ribbons, is accompanied by a troupe of people. They'd go door to door and sing requesting entry into houses, and the inhabitants were expected to deny entry in a singing back-and-forth until eventually they'd relent and let the Mari Lywd and company in. The group would continue entertaining the household with singing and silliness and be given food and drink for it. :3Supplementary fun fact: did you know that the twelve days of Christmas start with Christmas and end on Epiphany, January 6th?Jan 3, 2024
