Question: How do you fee about horse shoes on anthro horses? I’m currently making a ref for a character that has hooves and was in the middle of designing the horse shoes when I thought about how I rarely see horse shoes on anthro horses characters and/or characters with hooves.Sep 13, 2021

The horse shoes are there for the horses comfort & health so they would have to at least wear something similar :)

Instead of horse shoes on anthro horses, (like the ones that are nailed to the bottom of the hooves, right?) just give them hoof boots! They’re literal horse shoes that look like little shoes & can be slipped on & off of a horse’s hoof!

Imo they would literally HAVE TO wear some type of shoe. Have you seen those videos of baby deer sliding around a kitchen or smth? Hooves don't have the proper traction for smoother surfaces, so they'd probably need some type of shoe to not fall and crack their head open lmao. Also you get to bypass the pain that is drawing hooves lmao

I think it would be really cool to give a character horse shoes! And if you don't see many characters with them then that just makes your character stand out more!

I think it be pretty cool to give it horse shoes. I haven’t drawn him yet but I have an anthro horse Oc and I probably give him horse shoes whenever I get to drawing him. At the very least it be a nice extra detail

So, my only basis for this is I worked with horses for about five or six years. From a veterinary/medical standpoint, shoes are vital to some horses’ wellbeing. Things like weak keratin, diet, age, club foot, injuries, etc can all affect if a horse needs shoes. Every horse I’ve worked with has had different situations around having shoes or not.
So I think it could come down to an individual character’s needs or history, and whether or not their world has farriers to make shoes.
