A/i ruined the possibility to quickly search for historically accurate images. Google and pinterest are often interspersed with generated slop. Which ruins the ability to easily reference ACTUAL pictures or paintings of fashion or architecture from a time or aesthetic. It at least makes it take longer to get real references.
And bc it’s a/i it’s totally nonsensical and the details don’t mean anything (it’s just conjured forth from the slop) so they are literally worthless bloat on all the search engines that no one wants. Literally no one cares or tries to see them and they have no practical use. Completely a waste and search engines might have to start purging their repositories of a/i bloat regularly (or at least offer a filter to block it like with the safe search) or it’s gonna be a a real shit show before long.
I don’t try to concern myself with this stuff since it’s mostly just a downer over all but it’s kind of frustrating because I’m looking up specific fashion but I keep seeing stupid nonsense generated results
and it just has me thinking about it and how absolutely unnecessary and useless it is for so many practical reasons (let alone the ethical ones)Sep 24, 2024

I particularly had that problem when searching up medieval clothing every single image no matter what you search is a/i it’s infuriating like you literally have to scroll through hundreds of a/i generated slop to see a single real photograph or artwork.
Pro tip is to be hyper specific with what you’re looking for cuz I usually don’t have that problem when looking up certain eras where i’m a lot more specific on dates and the type of clothing.

•Ugh yes, I hate it so much. I tried looking up cultural clothing from different countries a while ago, and there's a website dedicated to spreading hundreds of inaccurate AI renditions of these cloths, cluttering the search results. I was able to easily filter it out, but that shouldn't even be a problem in the first place :/

•I totally get that, every time I see it I just roll with my eyes. It's just... These pics looks so damn ugly xD

I agree, it’s so annoying to be looking for a historical reference to only get ai generated junk. I recommend looking up fashion plates if your doing anything 1960s or older because they’re drawings and I feel like less people are trying to replicate them with ai. Also museums like the MET will also sometimes have digital records you can look through to find things.

•That's how I feel looking for art references to help me out. Ai has eventually started doing sketches and stuff, so it makes things especially hard.

Yeah I hate how when I'm looking for something specific I just get a bunch of AI
I tried looking up Cowboys for references on Pinterest and it was just a BUNCH of AI Cowboys
