The Disciples of Avan

I have finally caught up with a super underrated but very beloved anime series of mine: Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken! (Or “Dai’s Great Adventure”)
Idk if anyone is familiar with the game series “Dragon Quest”, but this is an early 90’s manga/anime series based on those games. I had discovered this show when I was in middle school and going through a HUGE Dragon Quest phase. I wanted to find a Dragon Quest anime, so I dug around and I found episodes of this little gem on Youtube!
It’s a story about a boy named Dai who was raised on an island by monsters and is receuited by this kooky swordsman named Avan to train him to be a hero. But then the Dark Lord Hadlar-a monster Avan had defeated in the past-comes back to life, kills Avan, and Dai and fellow pupil Pop have to go on an adventure to avenge their master and protect the world from Hadlar and the other six Dark Lords. It’s a sort of cheesy but actiony show, and I totally fell in love with the story and characters. I watched as many episodes as I could find on Youtube and read some of the manga. (The manga is great btw!)
When there was a reboot of this show announced in 2020, I was so fucking stoked. I saw how gorgeous the first episode was and tbh it made my whole 2020 worth it lmao (that and Jujutsu Kaisen).
Can’t recommend Dai No Daibouken enough lmao its great pls watch it~
