First design challengeHere's Ceres with her first design on the left and current one one the right. I redesigned this character in 2022 as a part of my graphic design thesis. There's probably at least a page worth of text about why the old design is not great. I did have fun drawing it again, but I think that design is going to stay in the archives, where it belongs.

Basically; it's A LOT, there's so much going on and none of it makes any sense. Her outfit is a mess and doesn't really convey anything about her as a character.

As for the new design, here's a little bit of my thought process. She's a very formal and well put together person, so I wanted her newer design to reflect that. She also has a very cold and stoic personality, with ice magic abilities to back that up, so I took some inspiration from places like figure skating for parts of her outfit.

Also, she is one of my comic project characters and the first design just has way too much stuff to draw over and over again.

So yeah, here's 1 of the 4 characters I redesigned for my thesis back in 2022. This challenge was a good excuse to show the old designs again. Even if they make me cringe a bit.

The old outfit looks fun but the new one is soo much better!! The overall shape looks much cleaner and pleasing to look at, there's not as much going on anymore (which could fit a chaotic character but like you said she's formal and put together so the new one definitely reflects that a lot better) and I love the colours!!
This is a wonderful example on character design and I so agree on what you pointed out for your thesis. Storytelling with a character 's design is very important! I love how Ceres went from "personal oc" to "character" if I can explain myself well. "Personal" is more self indulgent on the go, messy as much as you want. The redesign becomes digestible as you said for comic art and to be redrawn multiple times without extra struggles

I really love the new one it's harmonious! Thanks for participating
