Musical Mayhem
My entry for #yearofrayman2025. This month's prompt is "Musical Mayhem".This month's story was inspired by the original Rayman from 1995 and recounts the strangely artistic fates of the game's bosses that never showed up again. Rayman finds himself returning to the Valley, only to find a theatrical musical going on that's advertising his arrival. As he goes to investigate, he ends up encountering some old enemies in a very bold new (and literal) direction! Have his former foes turned over a new leaf, or is this play hiding something sinister waiting in the wings?
I'm super happy with how this story turned out, really exploring ideas of "What happened?" and added detail and motivation to the original bosses from the first game, who really had no motivation to fight alongside Mr. Dark whatsoever. They were simply bosses and not really characters. I wanted to use this story to explore and fix that. I want to mostly thank my friend Sophie for looking over and helping me improve this story. She was the biggest help I could have! And I want to thank you all again for reading this story, inspired by my own experiences working for years as a volunteer for community theater.
