hiiiiiiThis is the first drawing where I’ve heavily implemented the color red! I hate using red, it doesn’t really go well with anything, but I really wanted to create a sharp contrast between the environment and the “audience”. If you read my little writing piece above, I hope it makes sense why I chose the flower itself to be red ;)
Speaking of the environment: I used the Alcazar in Seville, Spain as inspiration, but the original was a little too happy-looking, and that was not gonna work. I wanted the scene to look cold, superficial, and dreamlike, hence the minimal render, round, cloud-esque shapes, and cool colors, and I used a red-orange (plus blend modes) to create the highlights. The only place where a variation of blue or red was not used was for the stem of the flower. Green is a color commonly associated with life, and I wanted to show that the flower was the only living and “real” object, and making it stand out also draws your attention.
The main inspiration, however, comes from a short writing that I did a while back(that I never finished lol). It was basically about my fears of becoming an adult, and how I hated that life was just a stupid cycle of school>work>death and how everyone’s just kinda accepted that that’s just how things are! even though I’ve heard of so many people say that they hate their job but money’s more important than actually living your fucking life. Anyways, I used a rose to represent a person and stole the “new, uncomfortable environment that slowly wears down on you” aspect of it.

I can’t imagine what kind of pain you’ve been through, but you portrayed it beautifully with your words and your artwork.
