I watched an official announcement about changes that are going to happen in the upcoming months and it's official that IG will favour video format over images. They want to imitate tiktok and youtube. That's yet another thing that will make it hard to share art and have a decent reach.
What are your thoughts on this? Are you going to upload reels to try to improve your reach?

I gave up on reaching bigger circle of people long long time ago...because I'm near 300 follows... In like 5 years I'm on IG. Reason I'm using that app is only because of some good accounts that share some good fine art and introduce to many painters through the ages and other creatives ... If this app would have some of that I'll probably ditch IG

It's stupid for already established apps to then change and mimic other apps. Let the apps be their own apps! We don't want them all to mix and be the same. That's why we have the seperate apps!

•put bluntly, it annoys me. my reach was already crap before that announcement, i wouldn't be surprised if it goes dead after the changes are applied 
anyway, as long as i have followers there, i'll keep posting. can't do videos tho, my space is collapsible and small, so even if i wanted to, it's hard for me to draw and record at the same time.

•it bothers me so much how instagram is just turning in an off brand tik tok now. The majority of the reels are reposted tik toks anyway. I thought instagram was a platform made for pictures and short videos and not just the videos alone, you know

•I actually eanted to start making reels before this update came up, so I‘ll see it as a chance ^^ I mean, I don‘t really care if I get more followers or not anyway. I just want a reason to draw that doesn‘t include making it my main job! ^^

•I feel bad for all the artists on Instagram that try to get a following but then are crushed by the algorithm. In my eyes, I don’t even see the point of being on insta anymore, and I’m much happier now doing everything for myself more than for views. Insta was made for influencers, and they will adjust their algorithm to get the most money and views out of them even when other people use their platform. Bending over backwards to please the algorithm seems pointless to me, and in my case it was a lot healthier for me to distance myself from the app and do things for myself for once. That’s just my thoughts on it
