If you’re scared of starting off I highly recommend just going for it.
Every story that can be told has been told. What makes yours unique is that you made right here and now.
Audiences like that sense of familiarity in a genre. It’s just those extra bits that make the audience think a tiny bit more that give us a sense of a nuanced story.
Find what sticks with you when you recall horror and just spill it out. Cut it down later. ABOUT THAT-
Theres a truly creepy book called Picnic At Hanging Rock.
Where characters go missing at a certain location. In the original transcript, the big twist was that there was an alien spaceship stealing humans. Some ABSOLUTE GENIUS of a publishing agent just- chop. Cut out the end of the book and it ends so abruptly. Nothing is concluded and you as a reader are left with your imagination.

What I like about Junji Ito is the 'turn page' method. As in, you see the character saw something terrifying and then it is up to YOU to see what they saw. You for example turn a page and BOOM suddenly you see a guy with big holes in their body.

Read, watch and listen to horror stories. See game examples. Research is key. Kojima always jam pavks his schedule with absorbing that content before making his games.
