I was just thinking that I've been taught some of the coolest professors in my electives and liberals courses.
Ancient Greece and Rome (History): has an IG page for his dachshund, reads Rick Riordan's books, plays mobile and video games (especially gacha where mythological figures are characters). Apparently, he loves Hades and God of War
English (3 individuals) includes an editor/author, an actress who takes on bg roles and a novelist. The actress loves Kdramas (finally, references I get). The editor/author used to work in NYC, Chicago and Paris. The novelist is just a chill lady who was almost too generous - her class average was an 83%
They were all passionate even during 8am classes so us students tried to show up and engage with them. Their office hours was more like tea time. Halfway through one email, one prof just dropped formalities and was like "yeah, your last point is fine, don't overthink this". They were on top of uploading stuff even with their side job(s)
Compare that to STEM profs who read off slides in monotonous voices for 2-3hrs, brag about how the last 4 generations had 35% average on the midterm, catching themself before calling legit questions 'stupid'...it might have to do with the subject or large class. I should have majored in EnglishOct 5, 2023

Oh, and: I didn’t have him as a teacher, but my middle school principal was a former classics teacher. I was in his car once; he drove a fiat 500 and went really aggressive on turns.

1 had a fish named methuselah and had a full metal set of replica roman armor that she wore to school sometimes
2 had like 10 3D printers
3 was a WOW/assassin’s creed addict and preferred rambling about history over teaching us latin
4 has lots of stories about his undergrad shenanigans
5 stands on his chair and yells when he wants to emphasise a point
