Torikate11K (DTIYS Entry)

I did another digital art piece once again — and this time, it was for a draw-this-in-your-style challenge hosted by TorikateIllustration. This is one of my baby steps into learning kidlit-style art, and I must say, it’s been a colourful little adventure.

For this piece, I drew a cheerful little girl in a bright green striped swimsuit with frilly blue edges and cute yellow polka-dot floaties. She’s happily running barefoot on the grass, holding an ice cream cone with a big smile on her face. Her wavy reddish-brown hair bounces with her steps, and she wears big purple goggles that match her excited, sparkly eyes.

Right beside her is her dog — a bright orange, playful pup with a big tail that looks like it’s on fire! He’s wearing goggles too, his tongue sticking out as he tries to keep up with his best friend. A few adorable bees buzz around them, adding a playful touch to the scene. The whole moment feels like summer fun in motion!

The artwork turned out fine, and I’m quite happy with how it came together. But since I’m still taking baby steps in this kidlit journey, I know there are things I need to improve — like pushing more of that soft, storybook charm and balancing shapes even better. Still, it’s a fun start, and I learned a lot through this drawing.

I’m glad I joined this challenge — it’s helping me grow, bit by bit.
