Ghûl (ghoul) concept artSomething kind of different...
Trying to flex my speculative anatomy muscles more with The Knowticed Files' take on ghouls. My coworker was unexpectedly really interested in them and what I was doing to make them unique
turns out she is also a fan of speculative biology!
While it was Tokyo Ghoul that got me thinking about how ghouls have been variously depicted in fiction, those ghouls didn't closely influence or factor into my decision to include a version of them in The Knowticed Files. I think of these creatures as being more like a fae race, like the djinn that ghouls are part of in Arabian folklore.
I decided to call them ghouls and work that into their lore partly because I named one of the more prominent members after a friend from college, whose claim to fame in our social circle was a bit that he was a ghoul, and it didn't feel right if a character named for him wasn't one

I haven't yet decided if they are digitigrade or plantigrade so there's some inconsistency in the anatomy of the legs and feet...this is just a concept sketch and I'll iron things out as I continue to work on the manga
