@dodger's post on Artfol
A few days ago I mentioned a user that made me uncomfortable because they asked me an ominous message in my dms that I didn’t know the meaning of right after liking one of my posts. I went on artfol today to find a message asking the same thing from a different account after liking the same post. I blocked that one too but I’m worried this is going to become an issue has anyone else got any messages like this?? The message says “ hello did you work for an order?” Which is said by a non artist account with a normal sounding name. Am I just being paranoid or is this genuinely strange? I usually wouldn’t care if it was a bot who asked the same bot-like questions but it’s such a specific phrase that i’m not sure.Oct 12, 2024

Those are scamm bots!
You're not paranoid nor anything, you did good by blocking.
Some of them might only follow you no liking any post and still ask.
Be careful out there!

Yeah, I received that phrase multiple times, only the first time I went along with that asking for "examples" of their work, and they send some, a reverse search shown it was from different art accounts, like TikTok or Instagram, Soo yeah lying.
That's why some don't answer DMS at all, if it is from someone you never interacted with before. Most use similar phrases, and same operation mode, so just keep an eye out for those things, because it is likely this issue isn't going anywhere, sadly.

I havent gotten any messages like that but i have gotten quite a few "hey i really like your art i would like to buy it etc" and say the name they have is e.g tom and at the end of the message it say ", jim" like huh? But most of them send the same thing and their new accs so i just block them they say about paying me and like nfts so yea. Idk if anyone experiences this too.

I got the exact same message last month. I didn't pick up on how weird it was at first, I assumed the person just didn't speak perfect English. So I engaged with them, asked what kind of commission they wanted etc. and we had a short conversation, but then I noticed they were being really weird and just stopped responding. Nothing else happened since then, no more messages from them or other accounts.
What tipped me off:
- the account asked for a commission, but didn't like any more than 1 of my posts and didn't follow me
- the account was Ukrainian, but asked me for pictures of their "cousin" who was a young black lady and a U.S. marine
- the photos of the lady were from a real (I think?) Instagram account, but only 1 of them was an exact match (I Google image searched them)
- before I even named my price they offered 500$
This was the first time I ever dealt with something like this, and I clearly didn't catch it as soon as others would have. So I'm leaving this here for those who also need a couple more hints like I do.
Stay safe everyone!

It's probably a bot. I heard some theories about bot collecting data for language AI based on the asnwer to the message, but also collecting data on the type of message that can trick people to scam them

YUP. this is a common thing on artfol, unfortunately, like how it was on ig. Keep blocking and reporting those weirdo bots, absolutely do not fall for it!

It's a bot, just block and report, this is a massive problem currently, I'm hoping as the site changes to artfol.2 they will have implemented better spam controls. Absolutely do not agree to do work for these bots, they are trying to get your bank account details.
