Ghost Bride
So.....this is something different for me. I've been a doll collector for many years but I never attempted to do a repaint. However, recently I just really got the urge to try it, so I did. My initial plan was to give her a face and style inspired by the original Barbie with the Lilli face mold but.....I just couldn't unsee the vision of a haunting ghost Barbie....and that idea seemed much more fun. I love horror aesthetics and so I am glad that I went with that because I actually enjoy it much more to make creepy and disturbing art; it just satisfies something deep within me.I could even see this turning into a little series in the future - making more ghost bride Barbies.
She drowned, by the way. I don't have a full background story for her but she does remind me of something I experienced when I was twelve. I had to prepare a presentation about Scotland and I looked into folklore and ghost stories as well. I don't remember any of the actual stories just that I was so deeply disturbed by the stories I had read that I would dream of a ghostly woman in white standing in the middle of my room, screaming. Her hair and dress were floating as though she was underwater.
I was also scared of closing my eyes because in my mind I would see and feel her staring at me.
So, that's what my muse was for this creation, I guess.
The Barbie used is from the early 2000s but she was already in her second lifetime; what I mean by that is that her head and body had slightly different skin tones, indicating that her head must've been seperated from her original body and attached to another one.
I didn't make the dress. I simply found it at a fleamarket. Also, I didn't do damage to it. It was already ripped when I got it. But torn wedding dresses can be so beautifully eerie.
All I did was remove her face with acetone, repaint her and style her hair.Mar 30, 2026
