Anyone got any tips on getting your followers interested in your ocs?
I've had an Instagram account for a while, and honestly, thanks to the all mighty algorithm, I've been getting barely any interactions on my posts.
Nonetheless, there are a couple of people who are still interested in my posts, but I don't really know how to get my characters introduces to them and then get them intrested in the characters.
I know it's really hard in general to get people invested in your characters (like how fanarts tend to usually do better than oc posts), so I'm really confused how some people manage to do it.Apr 24, 2023

as an oc artist , show more less tell . focus ur illustration more in storytelling , i keep drawing my characters since 2020 tho i created them around 2017, but now i have an album and compilation of them. Its gonna take time for people to know who are them, base on my experience and there's alot of room to explore. the most important thing is to have fun drawing them, drawing my oc help myself to relax and escape in the stressful situation.

If you keep drawing the same characters all the time... Ppl will eventually want to know abt them. But if you draw random characters and not the same ones... They don't tend to stick to ppl's mind at all. Also don't write a lot abt the character. Many ppl don't like to read much. Just draw them

Comics or any kind of storytelling illustration definitely help engage people with characters rather than neutral poses and character descriptions, especially if you are able to beg a question from it. Like “why did they choose to do that?” “What is their relationship?” “Why would they do that?” blah blah
SHOW PEOPLE WHY THEY SHOULD CARE ABOUT FOLLOWING THEIR STORY!
This is something very important to remember because if they don’t, people are gonna move on ;v;
You could introduce your characters to situations that let certain traits, values, limitations and weaknesses of theirs, or their relationships with others, shine! They’re particularly engaging cuz you get to understand their true character and such.
You could introduce an obstacle to their goal, a personal challenge or a means to root for them - or perhaps the opposite depending on context! :>
Don’t be afraid to show your characters weaknesses! Even if it may make them seem less likeable, it can make them more real, and therefore more relatable.
And avoid massive info dumping cuz people have low attention spans and may not read it hehe :’3

Par0lell is one of my biggest inspos for this kind of thing hehe. I’m so invested in her characters and her oc posts often do better than her fanarts which is amazing so I would definitely give her official and spam account a look!! she’s on Insta too :D

I think drawing them a lot does wonders as opposed to writing about them all the time since these are visual-focused platforms.
Comics really helps because you get more insight about their character but I don't think comics are absolutely necessary, they just help speed up that "emotional investment."

Aw man, idk about how Instagram works, but usually when I see short comics or characters interacting I get to see their personality and get more attached to them
