The cat the myth the menaceI’m pretty open with the fact that a lot of my ocs have pretty direct inspiration, but I’ve noticed that nobody ever really gets it??? Like any time I get a “this looks like so and so” it’s always someone I’ve never even heard of and can’t even see where they got that from.
Hopefully this will put it to rest.
Noodle (specifically plastic beach era, but also just her in general):
General physique and personality. Probably where I got the mask. She’s like if Noodle was batshit insane and a furry.
The nekomata and Japanese folklore about cats:
The most clear inspiration. Her whole persona is “the nekomata”. The ribbons on her belt are made to look like tails, her mask is a modified Noh theater mask, she occasionally plays a shamisen (which where occasionally made of cat skin and heavily associated with the nekomata. Nekomata are dangerous shapeshifting cat yokai knows for raising the dead and starting fires and generally being terrible. She does all of those things and has an entire Chinese village convinced she’s a demon.
O-ren Ishii:
Kyoko’s backstory chapter is an entire reference to O-ren’s. And well, I’m not gonna spoil anything but this inspiration comes around in the final battle.
The Wu Sisters:
Mostly just appearance based since I know jackshit about them. I needed a cannon reference for cats in the kfp style, although kyoko is much skrunklier. Even so she did kinda steal their look.May 16, 2023
