Controversial art opinion of the day!
Finding your style isn’t as important as everyone seems to think it is.
I think people stress their style and trying to find it too much. Practicing basics like anatomy and color/lighting is more important and over time as you create a body of work your style will develop naturally.
It’s also not something that stagnates (or should stagnate). If you’re practicing often your work will continue to improve as will your “style”. I think people put immediate pressure on themselves to have a cohesive body of work in one “style” without practicing the basics and growing naturally so their work suffers for it. I remember being frustrated at first for not having an art style. Thankfully I also remembered that art is something I love and a mean to express myself. There's no need to be stressed about "style". Just take a pencil, a brush, an iPad, whatever you have and start drawing/painting

•Style is such a weird thing. For me I define style as my way of understanding a subject, how to tackle it and break it into shapes, then build up the pieces back into a translation of the real thing.
If more people understood style as a way of understanding and not simply what's on the surface (as a visual thing) maybe people wouldn't stress so much. There's so much thought and experience that bubbles underneath a style. It's a thought process.
You're right people should study the fundamentals and other artists to build a foundation of knowledge for the style.
But people probably place pressure on themselves for marketing and financial reasons like having followers. Having a consistent style and subject matter makes it easier to gain and retain an online audience.
That's probably one down side of the internet.

•I've never really tried to 'find my style' and I never understood people's stress about it. I've always just drawn and gradually improved over time so I'm glad my style is inconsistent because it means I've got better :)
