That means, the challenge where you show your OC a song that reminds you of them.
So was inspired to make a small non-canon (ofc. xD ) comic thing for it.
I prolly could have made more interesting BGs for it but I decided I want to work on a more important project so I could maybe start uploading it in early May. Didn't wanna spend too much time on this after I decided that. xD
For this character, Tai, one such song would be "Where Do We Draw the Line" by Poets of the Fall. Now, I'm really bad at deciphering lyrics that aren't just basically very straight-forward storytelling so it's veeery hard for me to understand what this song is supposed to be about, BUT. That part in the middle. While I have no idea who "the one that never grieves" really refers to, in my mind I could interpret it as something that would fit Tai.
So, lllemme explain. Tai is indeed undead. Hundreds of years ago, he had a home, loving parents and a promising future. He was always a huge mother's boy, while his father was a hunter who worked hard to teach his son the trade. Tai was physically strong but nowhete near as skilled a hunter as his father. At least not yet.
Tai died in... let's just say an accident for now, and only woke up a hundred years later in his new ghost-zombie hybrid form. His home was long gone and he never found out where his parents went beyond "there was once a couple who left to look for their lost son." Tai has no idea if they ever found out what happened to him and he HATES to think they may have spent the rest of their days thinking he ran away. After all, he did disappear just the day before he was to be introduced to someone whom his father was hoping could be Tai's future wife if things went well. It wasn't that Tai didn't want to get married and ran away, he just was worried he wouldn't be good enough... and ended up proving to himself he sure wasn't ready to support a family of his own.
As for that "the one who never grieves" line, I decided to make that refer to Tai's Familiar, Saige, who died alongside him. Tai and Saige never were particularly close as Saige was very lazy and would much rather break anthills and scare off birds than participate in proper hunting. But oh boy, when they both woke up after their deaths, Saige was LIVID. Suddenly Tai was the one he'd torment however he could, searching for increasingly horrible ways of trying to kill Tai. After all, they are now undead and, as such, immortal. All that happens is that they get knocked out for a while. This has been going on for about 200 years now and Tai has learned to just live with the fact that whenever he wakes up, he will have a bit under a week before Saige will again pop up with some new, "exciting" way to hunt him down.
In terms of personality, Tai is quite unstable. He USED to be calm even if uncertain about his own skills, but I guess 200 years of being hunted by someone who was supposed to protect him and basically dying a couple of times a month breaks down one's spirits. He can get very sassy and snappy, even threatening, if someone tries to ask him too many questions about himself. He avoids letting people know he's undead but it can be tricky when he has to protect himself from sunlight. What kind of person hunts all night and huddles up in shade for the rest of the day?
Oh yes. And the "but the end is-" part is a reference how the end of the song is more hopeful... Which also fits Tai. :3c
Too bad he didn't wanna hear it.
On another note, I may do this again with a different character because I got a really dumb idea. I just first gotta do that bigger project and then I can come back to this. At least the challenge won't be buried in my Like-list since this one is now in my gallery. :>
Though now, I gotta go make some food-. Lunch? Is 3pm food lunch? Well, if not, my lunch was half a Digestive biscuit and a half-glass of water. I just have been on my phone ever since waking up, lol.Apr 23, 2021
