Help with watercolor powder

I used watercolor powders for the first time and I would appreciate some tips on how to use them.

I sprinkled it directly on the paper, not expecting it to be as pigmented as it was should I just mix in a Palette first like regular water color?
Was my mistake doing it without a sketch?
Not sure what could fix this
