How to draw tattoos consistently?

Or anything complex like clothing patterns for that matter.

So i have a character for a comic that has plenty of tattoos, and i obviously can’t draw it over and over not just because I don’t have ten thousand years to spend but because it’s fairly complex and tricky.

Is there a way to cheat here? Should i… maybe map it out in 3d… how do you go about it? Especially when it comes to the more dynamic poses where good old liquify is not enough.

whenever i do that i usually just create a plain, flat view of the tattoos in an area (like youre drawing it on paper) and then whenever you need them just use the distort, liquify, and warp tool to move it around the shape of the body area
I see what ya mean, i have a character named Murph, covered head to ass with tattoos. I haven't yet started properly design his character but eventually i will begin drawing out each tattoos individually on a hi res document like how tattoo artists normally would do. By then i would also have a reference sheet for correct mapping of the body.

I will use these design as stencils so i wont have to draw them over again and use transform/liquify tools to get it into place and revise it for the pose.
