Margarita en la romería prohibida de San SebastiánHi guys!! This is one of the illustrations of my final proyect, and it is based on Montesclaros's history, my mother's village (at Castilla la Mancha, Spain). The name of the village means "white mountains". It's a very small village in the middle of a valley that was founded in XVI by a rich marquise (the marquise of Medina y Luna) She took a bunch of farmers from every corner of Spain, gave them gold and a piece of land so they could start a new life. They eventually found out there was lime in the land and the village became a miner town. Those mines where still working during the civil war and my grandfather worked there when he was a boy. There's a hermitage in the forest build for Saint Sebastian, and it is said in some old files from 1730 that the ovisp forbidded a half-pagan party with clear celtic roots (some of the first farmers came from Galicia, at the North of Spain, and that explains the vibe) in wich people dressed with animal furs and animal masks and paraded with torches down the forest to worship San Sebastian, screaming and dancing and drinking wine. It was aparently a mix of pagan and christian traditions, but the Spanish church was a bit of a bitch and decided it was satanic, soooo... Anyways, in this illustration Margarita, the main character, parades in this party down the forest. Those outfits, the white shirt and long skirt with stripes and lapron are the tradicional clothing of the village, based on what women usted to wear back then. I have one of my own that my aunt made! The skirt is really heavy! Thanks for reading! May 28, 2022
