Why do so many artists fret over having an "inconsistent style"?
As artists, we're supposed to be constantly learning and growing in our craft. That means your art will change as you learn things and incorporate those lessons into your work. It's supposed to. There's no need to apologize for a "lack of consistency."Jul 14, 2021

I suppose because if you want to draw comics or go into animation, there’s an expectation for the characters to look consistent page by page. Of course, not even professional artists manage this to a T. Your art just naturally changes over time, but yeah. Another reason could be that artists can more easily see a style in their friends’ works, something that identifies their work as theirs, but when they look at their own they don’t see that uniting kind of style I suppose. But yeah I mean, no one really said you had to draw consistently. If anything for those of us that do it can often get us into ruts where we draw the same thing over and over shh N c aren’t able to break out and do something new. So being inconsistent can even be advantageous if it means you’re able to break out of your “style” now and then. Which brings up another point. I’ve often seen people who fret over having an inconsistent style to say they don’t have a style at all. That really distresses some people, but a style is something you develop over time. You don’t always see it, especially if you’re just beginning.
